How To Choose The Right Type Of Gutter Guard

Having a gutter guard along your roofline not only helps to keep leaves, sticks and other debris out of your rain gutters, but it keeps you from having to climb up and down the ladder 3-4 times a year for gutter cleaning as well. That said, what do you look for in choosing a gutter guard for your home? Here's a look at a few things that should help you make your best decision.

Easy Installation

This is critical if you will be doing the installation yourself. If you need all sorts of special tools, not to mention skills, then installation could be difficult at best for you. Look for a gutter protection system that is easy to install for any skill level... or better yet, for someone without any experience at all.

Many of today's gutter guard systems use unique clips that secure the guard to the gutter's edges. This is a much easier method, and one that anyone can follow along and do. These clips also allow you to be able to remove the gutter guard when you need to wash out the gutter.

Effectiveness

Obviously, you don't want to spend money, and your time, on something that just doesn't work well. And not all gutter guards are made the same. Some work much better than others. What I recommend, and what the sales people don't want you to hear, is to look around for various reviews from actual users of any system before making a purchase.

By reading the consensus from actual users of a given product, you'll get the truth about any gutter protection product. I look at a complete overview and not just a single review, which could be biased or even given from a competitor. But looking at the overall consensus of user reviews, you'll get a good idea of whether the product is solid or not.

Gutter Guard Costs

Costs are also a very important consideration. For products such as the Gutter Helmet, Gutter Armor, Leaf Guard, etc., you could be looking at $2,000 - $5,000 or more depending on your home's size.

On the other hand, a product like the Gutter Brush can cost as little as $500 for the same sized home... and work just as well if not better in keeping out the leaves, twigs, animals and other debris.

These three areas will help you make a good decision in which type of gutter guard protection system to purchase.
